Our Retrain Horses for Adoption program utilizes seasoned riders with strong equestrian skills and extensive contacts within the equine community to help rehabilitate, retrain, and then place our retired horses into new homes through adoption. We look forward to developing new retraining affiliations with qualified individuals or stables.
Your Equestrian Skills Help Us Save Horses.
We have many retiring Thoroughbred horses that can still enjoy life as a pleasure, trail, dressage, event, or show horse. As a retraining affiliate, you can help rescued horses transition into new careers. Preparing a horse for the right job leads to placing a horse into the right home with the right folks.
- Use your equestrian talent to rehabilitate and retrain our horse at your facility.
- Take whatever time is needed to evaluate a horse's physical abilities, soundness, attitude, and desire.
- Work with the horse to develop skills needed for him to succeed at his new job.
- Network contacts and attend equestrian events to find the perfect individual to adopt this horse.
- Determine if you can find the right home for this horse. If not, bring him back. If so, great!
You work directly with your customers. We ask you to identify their equestrian experience, check-out their location, and ask a few qualifying questions. Have them sign our Adoption Agreement. We have found that a clear understanding of the commitment made by them when adopting a retired racehorse is important.
You collect any fees due. Cabin Creek asks for a minimum donation of only $150.00 for every adopted horse. Cabin Creek may ask for additional fees to cover certain expenses such as surgery; but these fees will be disclosed to you before you decide to work with the horse. Any additional fees associated with your rehabilitation or retraining services can be negotiated directly between you and the adopting individual. Some organizations, such as Turning Point Farm, kindly donate any collected fees back to Cabin Creek to help defer a portion of our costs.
You can offer new services to your customers. Many Retraining Stables provide discounts to adopting individuals for extended board, short-term board with additional training, personal instruction, event support, or transportation. You and your clients will also qualify for Cabin Creek's discounts for horse care products and services from local equine vendors in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and the Mid-atlantic area.
You gain market recognition. We will profile you, your stable, and your equine business services on our website. We will feature the horses you are retraining and forward all resulting inquiries to you. We welcome pictures of the horses you are working with or have placed for adoption. We love success stories and will help you write and post them. We will link to your website, and you can link to ours. Become a key contributor to our horse care tips and post comments on the Wall of our Facebook Account.
We welcome the opportunity to work with you.
