Adoption - It Works

Cabin Creek and their Retraining Stables successfully transition non-competitive racehorses from their careers at the track, to new careers as pleasure, trail, event, dressage, or show horses. By nature, Thoroughbreds are intelligent, lovable horses that can develop lasting bonds with their caretakers and their pasture pals. A retired racehorse, properly retrained and transitioned into the right career, can provide many wonderful years of enjoyment to the right adoptive folks.

  • Many Productive Years Ahead - Most racehorses end their racing careers at a young age and still have many productive years left to succeed in new careers.
  • Quality Breeding - Racehorses are top quality Thoroughbreds with impressive bloodlines and a winning heritage of champions.
  • The Best Athletes - Racehorses are accomplished athletes, usually still in top condition, that can compete successfully in disciplines other than racing.  And although an injury may have been the cause for retirement; that same injury, given time to heal, may not be a problem in other non-racing activities.
  • Pre-Evaluation - We actively evaluate our horses' physical condition, natural ability, movement, and potential limitations. We learn as much as possible about their past experiences, mental attitude, and desire. This helps us identify the right job and the right folks for each horse.
  • Rehabilitation First - Even the most skilled rider can not easily manage a horse placed directly from the track.  We take steps to reintroduce a horse to more relaxed daily experiences. This rehab helps our racehorses "come off the track" both mentally and physically.
  • Retraining Adds Value -  Our professional equestrians provide transitional retraining for our horses. Retraining refreshes the basics, identifies talents, enhances performance, and adds skills.

Rehabilitation + Retraining = A Successful Adoption
